Description

Overview MCE Lead Technician – U.S. Projects 100% Travel – North America | Rotation: 6 Weeks On / 1 Week Off About the Role Sky Climber Renewables is seeking experienced Main Component Exchange (MCE) Lead Technicians to support large corrective projects across utility-scale wind farms in the United States. MCE Leads specialize in the safe execution of main component exchanges and complex uptower repair services, working closely with Project Managers and site leadership to deliver critical scopes safely, efficiently, and to customer expectations. This role is designed for technicians with deep hands-on experience in heavy lifts, rigging, crane coordination, and wind turbine systems, who are also capable field leaders. MCE Lead Technicians are responsible for directing daily work activities, coaching team members, and maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and execution. What You’ll Do Lead main component exchanges on wind turbine generators, including blades, gearboxes, generators, main bearings, and related components Coordinate daily execution with site leadership and project management to meet contractual and operational requirements Plan daily work activities, assign tasks to crew members, and ensure work is completed safely and to quality standards Serve as the primary field point of contact for MCE execution, including daily plans, progress updates, and end-of-day reporting Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs or replacements to correct equipment malfunctions Conduct routine maintenance activities such as cleaning, greasing, lubrication, and inspection of tools and equipment Lead and assist with general site operations and related work activities with minimal supervision Coordinate with engineering and technical support teams for troubleshooting and diagnostic assistance when required Complete and maintain all required company and client documentation using computer-based reporting systems Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, including proper handling of oils, greases, and solvents Safely operate company vehicles in accordance with company policy and insurance requirements Leadership & Technical Authority Act as the day-to-day field leader for MCE crews Provide instruction, coaching, and oversight to ensure tasks align with crew experience and capability Serve as a capable teacher with a strong desire to develop team members Perform and oversee rigging activities, crane calling, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and use of standard and specialty tooling Execute torqueing and tensioning of bolted connections in compliance with installation manuals and specifications Test and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems during exchange activities Qualifications & Experience High School Diploma or GED required Minimum three (3) years of wind industry experience, including heavy lift and main component exchange work Demonstrated experience with main component exchanges, rigging, crane coordination, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, assembly and disassembly instructions, technical manuals, and maintenance procedures Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic environments Intermediate computer skills and comfort using mobile applications and digital reporting tools Strong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated technical leadership and team leadership capability Positive attitude and ability to perform physically demanding work at height Willingness to work in confined spaces, alternate schedules, overtime, and holidays as required Physical, Travel & Rotation Requirements Ability to travel 100% to wind farms across North America Rotation schedule of six (6) weeks on / one (1) week off Ability to climb wind turbines approximately 300 feet Weight compliance between 120 and 280 pounds, including personal protective equipment Ability to lift and move heavy equipment, including items over 50 pounds Willingness to work outdoors in varying and adverse weather conditions Required Certifications OSHA 10 NFPA 70E GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART) CPR / AED / First Aid (all certifications must be current) Employment Conditions Safety-sensitive position Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record Ability to pass background check and drug screening Zero tolerance for substance abuse while working on SCR projects About Sky Climber Renewables Sky Climber Renewables (SCR) provides specialized field services to the utility-scale wind industry across North America.
