Description

Bellarmine College Preparatory, a Jesuit secondary school, has been educating young “men for and with others” in the tradition of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, since 1851. Bellarmine College Preparatory invites applications for an inaugural Director of the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, beginning on August 1, 2026. This is a part-time position (0.5 FTE). Reporting to the Assistant Principal, Instruction, the Director of the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship provides strategic leadership, program development, and day-to-day oversight of a dynamic, student-centered initiative designed to help students learn the skills needed to identify real-world problems to solve, ideate on solutions, develop and refine a pitch, and drive to culmination (outcomes range from entering a competition to taking an idea to market). This position requires a balance of high-level program administration, coaching expertise, solid entrepreneurial skills and thinking, and community leadership. This half-time role is responsible for building and sustaining a cohesive program that unifies curricular offerings, mentorship, resources, and experiential learning opportunities to support student innovation and entrepreneurship aligned with Bellarmine’s Jesuit mission of service. Additionally, working at Bellarmine requires a commitment to the mission and values of the school, as well as a collaborative spirit and enthusiasm for engaging with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and families in our community. Essential Responsibilities: Program Leadership and Administration • Provide strategic direction and day-to-day oversight of a cohesive, 4-year program (expected student engagement, 100-150 students in year 1). • Build a structured, multi-phase program supporting students through: o Ideation (problem identification, design thinking) o Creation (prototyping, iteration, project development) o Impact (launch, competitions, real-world application) • Establish the Institute as a central hub coordinating innovation efforts across campus. • Collaborate with school administrators, faculty, alumni, parents, and the Institute’s Advisory Board to support program growth, visibility, and sustainability. • Serve as a liaison between the Institute and the Business Office, including budget oversight and financial processes. Programming for Students • Design and oversee student programming, including: o Workshops, speaker series, and competitions o Project-based learning experiences o Venture incubation and mentorship pathways o Work with teachers of existing entrepreneurship/innovation related curriculum to ensure alignment with co-curricular approach and available resources • Guide students in developing projects into viable products, services, or initiatives with real-world impact. • Support student participation in pitch competitions, showcases, and external opportunities. Industry Mentors and External Partners • Recruit, cultivate, and manage a network of: o Industry mentors o Alumni entrepreneurs o External partners and advisors • Leverage Bay Area connections to provide students with exposure to real-world innovation ecosystems. Operations and Resource Management • Organize and oversee participation in local, state, or national competitions (e.g. SCU Pitch Contest, Jacobson Innovation Competition, Blue Ocean Competition). • Oversee logistics, scheduling, and coordination for all programs such as speakers series, competitions, and showcases. • Manage seed funding processes for student ventures. • Coordinate access to campus tools, Maker Lab, and associated prototyping resources. • Ensure effective use of program resources to support student success. Admissions, Community, and External Relations • Partner with the Admissions Office to increase program visibility at Open House, Admitted Student Night, and other on-campus events. • Speak with prospective students and families, including shadows and their guides, about the Institute and opportunities for students. • Build and sustain strong alumni and donor networks. Partner with the institutional advancement function to raise funds as needed. • Serve as a visible ambassador for the program within the school community and the broader community. Identify, evaluate, and build strategic partnerships as appropriate. • In partnership with the Marketing and Communications function, support storytelling and communications highlighting student outcomes. Minimum Qualifications/Skills: • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred). • Prior experience as an entrepreneur/founder a must, professional coaching experience preferred. • Demonstrated ability to lead programs and mentor students or early-stage innovators. • Strong organizational and project management skills. • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience working in education, preferably high school aged youth. • Connections within the Bay Area startup or innovation ecosystem. • Experience with design thinking, incubation models, or maker-based learning environments. • Commitment to Jesuit educational values of intellectual excellence, justice, and cura personalis. Physical Requirements: • Ability to lift 20 pounds, using proper lifting techniques. • Ability to sit, stand, and/or move around the applicable working environment as needed. • Ability to safely and comfortably travel around our campus. • Ability to use a keyboard (or an alternative input device) and other office equipment. • Ability to read information in printed material on a computer screen (often for extended periods of time) and/or on a mobile device/laptop.
