Reports to:  Assistant Director                                          Department:  Early Childhood Services Classification: Full-time                                                               Status: Exempt POSITION SUMMARY: The Center Supervisor supervises and directs staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality, developmentally appropriate services to children and families. This role fosters a work environment that encourages growth, learning, and positive collaboration. The Center Supervisor is responsible for implementing and maintaining early childhood education programs that comply with all Head Start Program Performance Standards, Kansas Department of Health & Environment childcare licensing regulations, and SEK-CAP policies and procedures. This position supports both the fiscal and programmatic aspects of the program, including direct staff supervision, recruitment and selection of new hires, employee onboarding and training, performance coaching and evaluation, delegation of responsibilities, and conflict resolution. The Center Supervisor provides leadership, guidance, and monitoring for Center Managers, teachers, and Substitute Teaching staff, and actively promotes a culture of teamwork, cooperation, and excellence. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Leadership and Supervision Provide supervision, leadership, and guidance to Center Managers and assigned Substitute Teaching staff to ensure compliance across all service areas. Supervise daily operations to ensure successful implementation of Head Start performance standards and state licensing. Conduct performance evaluations per policy and annually on the employee’s anniversary date. Provide corrective actions as needed to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Review and approve timesheets for supervised staff. Support Center Managers in interviewing and hiring processes for center staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Program Implementation and Compliance Ensure center-based operations comply with Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, and Kansas Licensing regulations. Possess thorough knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards and relevant state/federal regulations for the Head Start 0–5 program. Conduct and document manager classroom visit checklist for compliance. Support the Annual Program Self-Assessment and Community Assessment processes. Report suspected child abuse or neglect to appropriate authorities. Classroom and Child Development Oversight Collaborate with coaches and behavior intervention staff to ensure coaching and support plans are implemented in classrooms. Collaborate with component leads to ensure quality classroom structure, organization, and instruction. Observe and document the learning environment, including staff–child interactions, in the database. Apply social and emotional strategies to manage and prevent disruptive behavior. Maintain knowledge of child development theories and early childhood education principles. Family And Community Engagement Foster positive relationships with area service providers to ensure coordinated programming. Participate in inter-agency team meetings as requested. Attend Policy Council and subcommittee meetings as assigned. Support ongoing recruitment of eligible families. Data Management Analyze data from developmental assessment tools and Behavior Incident Reports to identify trends and provide guidance to enhance classroom experiences. Provide ongoing monitoring and documentation of ASQ-SE, ASQ-3, educational home visits, parent–teacher conferences, developmental assessment checkpoints, newsletters, etc. (additional ongoing monitoring is included in Center Manager/Lead Teacher Manual) Training and Professional Development Develop and maintain up-to-date resources and training opportunities for staff and trainees. Conduct staff supervision and provide support through practices and procedures aligned with Head Start Performance Standards. Assist Assistant Director in updating and maintaining the Center Manager/Lead Teacher Manual, including distributing to field staff. Attend all required in-service training and staff meetings. Professional Expectations Maintain regular, reliable attendance to ensure consistency. Collaborate with center staff to maintain a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment. Demonstrate professionalism by actively advocating for SEK-CAP, Inc. within the community and serving as a strong advocate for Head Start children and families. Respecting and supporting cultural differences and diverse family structures while maintaining strict confidentiality and privacy of all those involved with SEK-CAP. Through these actions, the Center Supervisor upholds the agency’s mission and fosters trust, inclusivity, and positive relationships with families and the community. Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with co-workers, community partners, and customers. Demonstrate a strong work ethic by adhering to schedules, following supervision directives, and complying with all agency policies and procedures. Travel as needed for trainings and meetings, including out-of-area. Report any suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with policy. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Basic computer skills, must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, data entry, email and digital calendars Basic operation skills of general office equipment such as photocopiers, faxes, and phone systems. Superior interpersonal skills. Ability to get along with diverse personalities. Tactful, mature, and flexible. Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public and to communicate effectively and clearly both orally and in writing. Resourceful and well organized. Ability to learn and adapt. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development, education, or related field preferred. Five to seven years of experience working in Early Childhood Education is preferred. Five years of supervisory experience preferred. Be eligible to obtain KDHE program approval. Obtain and uphold current First Aid and CPR certification. Submit to and pass a standard criminal history check. Possess a current, valid driver’s license and meet agency insurance underwriting guidelines. Successfully complete a physical exam and TB skin test before beginning employment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
