To assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by producing diagnostic CT scans of various organs and structures of the human body. Operates with minimal supervision, uses independent judgment to determine quality of radiographs, and compliance with established protocols. Responsibilities PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY): Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect. Job Skills/Knowledge: Performs all tasks in the CT area, including, but not limited to: reviewing patient histories for completeness and assuring appropriateness of exams; positioning patients and providing them protection from ionizing radiation; appropriately uses immobilization devices to ensure patient safety and quality images; performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination/protocol for all CT exams; manipulates reconstructed images using a wide variety of available computer functions to optimally visualize desired anatomy; correctly loads and programs injectors to deliver IV contrast appropriate for each protocol Patient Care: Performs all aspects of patient care, including, but not limited to: greet patients; provide care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including test explanation; verify medication reconciliation for all patients receiving IV contrast; evaluate patients for possible contraindications to contrast use; prepare and administer contrast orally, intravenously and rectally; practice asceptic and sterile technique during procedures; administer or assist in administering CPR and other emergency procedures as needed. Radiation Safety: Follows standard safety protocols for personnel using radiation producing equipment. Properly screens all females in childbearing years as to possible pregnancy. Regulates technical factors on individual patients in order to reduce radiation exposure while ensuring diagnostic quality images. Wears dosimeters correctly. Acquainted with hospital policies regarding fire safety and infection control. Performance Improvement: Adheres to corporate and departmental policies on time and attendance. Takes call as assigned, including weekends and holidays. Works assigned schedule and requests changes to existing schedule through lead or manager without creating OT. Produces a quantity of work comparable to coworkers in a reasonable amount of time. Cleanliness/Supplies: Maintains the CT area through regular stocking and cleaning. Reports supply shortages to lead or manager. Uses appropriate cleaning supplies for each piece of equipment and situation. Continuing Education: Instructs Radiologic Technology students in methods and procedures. Participates in continuing education activities related to the field of Radiologic Technology and its subspecialties. Demonstrates and maintains skills in providing care for patients of specific age groups, such as geriatric and neonatal, through in-service and continuing education. Accessory Duties: Able to appropriately utilize multiple types of computer programs and functions. Document appropriately in the HIS/RIS all aspects of patient care, i.e. contrast injection, IV start, supply charges and allergies. Appropriately uses PACS to store images. Appropriately schedule patients for exams, being mindful of contraindications and informed consent when necessary. Quality: Performs daily warm ups and daily QC testing. Able to assist the physicist in weekly/monthly/yearly QC testing. Ensure equipment is working correctly and report any problems immediately. Maintain documentation for any problems with the equipment. Qualifications Minimum Required: Associate's Degree - Radiologic Technology. Preferred Degree: Bachelor's Degree - Radiologic Technology. | Completion of JRCERT approved program in Radiologic Technology or an Associate of Science Degree in Radiologic Technology. Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist. Hired associates will have twelve months to take and pass the ARRT CT registry and become CT certified. Must participate in continuing education activities in accordance to the ARRT guidelines. Valid Ohio radiologic license. Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association. | Preferred: 1 - 2 Years equivalent experience. REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Must complete at least 24 hours of direct credit continuing education every 2 years.
